India rejects ‘politically motivated, malicious references’ in UN panel’s rights report

India on Wednesday rejected what it known as “politically motivated” and “extremely malicious” references in a UN committee’s report on alleged racial discrimination within the nation, saying the observations contained sweeping generalisations and unsubstantiated allegations.

Responding to media queries on the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UNCERD) press launch following India’s eleventh periodic evaluate below the Worldwide Conference on the Elimination of All Types of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), the Ministry of Exterior Affairs stated in a press release that India had participated within the evaluate in a “spirit of constructive engagement” and reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to combating racial discrimination.

The assertion added that India had highlighted its constitutional safeguards, authorized framework, pluralism and efforts to guard deprived communities in the course of the evaluate.

What prompted India’s response
